Beaded Kuba Prestige Belt

This belt is made of woven rafia, cowrie shells, and colourful glass beads. These were worn by ladies of the Kuba tribe of the democratic republic of Congo at festivals known as dace itul to celebrate important moments in Kuba history or to elevate the status of a tribal member to cheif. 

The decorative element in the centre of the belt was to be worn in the back.
